my childhood: me and my brother 2p-ing Secret of Mana grinding magics in the ice forest, stopping by, saying whatup to Santa.  We were never the MC, he was the sprite and I was the girl.Although to be honest I still don’t quite understand why whenever the sprite summons the spirits their palette is a shade darker than the girl’s version.

I just think the palette difference is because the sprite uses “black magic” compared to the girl’s “white magic”! Sort of a small, cosmetic touch, or something.

I mean practically speaking, they could’ve made a little difference so you know which character is casting without having to pause and see that you cannot perform actions with them.  Although since when you access that menu time pauses, it shouldn’t make that big of a difference anyway and you should probably be able to remember who you just set to cast a spell with in the last fifteen seconds of gameplay.Well, maybe if you’re casting spells with both characters and are waiting for the VERY SECOND you’re able to cast again I guess it works.  SLIGHTLY DARKER BLUE UNDINE IS GONE GO SPRITE GO GO GOAnd …Lumos?  (I remember Shade but not the light magic guy’s name) slightly purple look.  My reaction will always be :S

I think they were just trying to be cool or something with their palette swapping, I can’t see it having much of a practical use. I think a vast majority of people playing SoM played as the boy and selected the spells they wanted to use from the menus of the other two, so I doubt it’d be too confusing.
Your way of playing DOES sound a lot more fun, though, because the boy is pretty boring xD
“Lumina”, I think it was, at least in SoM? Yeah, I guess the official art and the sprite don’t exactly match up… that’s standard SNES game stuff, unfortunately!

Yeeeeep.  I’ll always think of GREEN HAIR when that happens, and also, look at the japanese character design for Illusion of Gaia/Illusion of Time compared to the NA instruction booklet/actual game sprites.  Eugh make Seth stop, please turn into a fish FASTERAnd yeah, it’s so much more fun to play as everyone BUT the MC in SOM.  And my brother and I were kind of dorks, we would get him stuck places and laugh about it.  Most boss fights we let him TAKE ONE FOR THE TEAM while we wailed on ‘em with magic haha
